Marike 022

In the first centuries after the invention of glasses, wood was often the material used for frames but later it disappeared when metal and plastics took over. In 1966 there was a short lived attempt to bring wooden frames back into fashion. I remember seeing frames like this in the windows of opticians in 1966 but never in the streets. Several decades later I came across this vintage pair and recognized it straightaway. The shape of the frame is characteristic for the mid 1960's but it's the material - and the great style of modeling - that set this nameless pair apart.
