This blog is dedicated to ladies in glasses. The vast majority of the portraits on this blog feature ladies wearing glasses near their own Rx. I felt that this would give a more natural flavour to the pictures and also a more natural setting for the photo shoots from which the pictures on this blog are selected. Nearly all the glasses featured in this blog are from my own collection.

Osi 062
But let's talk glasses.... Christian Dior created a tsunami when they entered the market for glasses in the mid 1970's. This silver pair shown by Osi was made a few years after Dior's breakthrough and the box of the glasses contained another clue of how revolutionary and innovative the house of Christian Dior was. Inside there were the crumbled, dried up remains of a plastic extension which could be clipped on the silver frame. The extension was ochre which was Dior's favourite colour in the late 1970's. It took the world of glasses designers and manufacturers another 25 years to take up this concept. When I first met my life partner Nel, she was wearing small, rectangular glasses by Zenka and each time she appeared for a date, the colours of her glasses were different. She had four different clips to put on the frame, depending on her outfit of the day. Needless to say, I presented her with a few more clips in the following years :). In retrospect, these silver Dior glasses were ahead of their time and they probably did not sell well - I can't remember ever seeing them in the streets around 1980. Such is the fate of real innovators but Dior had established themselves firmly on the market so why bother? A final note: these glasses were previously featured in three photo shoots: with Rachel in 2010, and with Nanda and Léonne in 2011. I brought these glasses to Ireland with Osi in mind and it's great to see her in this Dior experiment.
