Mother and daughter 102

Drop temple glasses were an invention of the mid 1970's but they became really popular in the early 1980's. The only down side of these beautiful glasses was a lack of stability. especially when the lenses had a substantial prescription. Here Miriam (left) is posing in a nameless pair from Germany, sent to me by Stephan from Augsburg, one of my favourite photographers. Note the considerable difference in Rx between the lenses. The lens in front of Miriam's left eye is -5.50, hence the power rings. The other lens is only minus two  so in this portrait, Miriam's right eye is "leading". Esther is wearing the same Luxotica glasses as in the previous series. Note the immense difference between both glasses. The 1970's and 1980's are generally known as "the era of the big frames" and while this is certainly true, these two glorious decades stand out especially for the incredible variety in frame styles available. The big glasses are back in the streets now, which is a good development after two decades of dull retro frames, but the variety is poor compared to the 1970's and 1980's. It is to be hoped that frame designers and opticians will put more variety in the near future. What about reintroducing some big drop temple glasses with modern materials?
