The reason why these "Lucia" glasses were not used before is not the frame but the Rx of the lenses. Almost no spherical strength but fairly strong cylinders with a not very common axis. Most people with astigmatism have what I call a vertical negative cylinder (axis near 0 or near 180) in their glasses. Only a small minority, perhaps one out of five, have horizontal negative cylinders (axis around 90) in their glasses. The "Lucia" glasses once belonged to a lady in this minority category. In short, I never came across a model who could see fairly well through these lovely glasses.
