Mother and daughter 053

Esther (left) and her mother Miriam posing in two more pairs of glasses made around 1970, both by Metzler from Germany.
Esther is posing in bifocals with only the slightest prescription for long distance  Miriam is wearing a pair of trifocal glasses. The position of the demarcation line between the reading segment and the smaller part for computer work is clearly visible in this portrait - I sacrificed some of the editing for the purpose. Trifocal glasses never became widespread. A few years after they appeared on the market, progressive lenses were introduced and these won the race because of their aesthetic advantages. Having said that, it must be noted that a small minority of the clients prefer trifocals because of the stability of the image in the intermediate range. It's nice to see two smiling models in bifocals and trifocals.
