Both model and photographer had to deal with a problem
of their own. Christien was limited to monovision as the left
lens is only 0.50 diopter short whereas the right lens is over
eight diopters too strong for her. Her court photographer was
struggling with the reflection of the light in the lenses. Needless
to say, anti-reflective coating did not exist in the late 1950's.
The extreme difference in Rx between the lenses is manifest
in the minification, but also in the reflection of the light. Anyway,
we both tried to make the best of it.... In my youth, outdoor
pictures of ladies in glasses always produced this effect, so let's
keep it at a bit of nostalgia.
Refractive amblyopia is a serious problem nowadays, but it was
even more so in the late 1950's when contact lenses were not
generally available. I doubt if the first owner of the Preciosa
glasses saw more with them than Christien does here.
Thank you, Christien, for your willingness to do this experiment!
