Imagine the problems if one had -7 myopia around 1900.
Cars were just invented and used by the happy few, but
cycling would have to be done with one hand. But this was
arguably safer than what we see in the streets today - many
youngsters on bikes look from behind if they hade one drink
too many. When you pass them by (with care), nine times
out of ten they are reading or sending sms messages, in other
words, they don't watch the road at all :). Traffic was very
quite around 1900.
Fashion was just as important then as it is now. Face à main
were for the well to do. Many ladies sported them, even if they
did not need any optical correction. This is another parallel with
what we see in the streets today - many girls in big, thick black
frames with plano lenses!
