A highlight in last year's work with freelance models was the epic photo shoot with "the glasses face ever", Melissa Houben. The final hour of the photo shoot featured Melissa in a series of new glasses, all fitted with -8.00 lenses. Melissa chose two pairs from this series for use in everyday life, preferring new glasses over money. I mentioned the annual Specsavers competition "Spectacle wearer of the year" to her and she had some photos taken in these glasses (in her own mild prescription) by a professional photographer in a studio. Some months ago she submitted these portraits to the Specsavers competition and a few weeks back she was selected for the finals which will take place on Thursday (September 27th) at the Westergasfabriek in Amsterdam. Unfortunately the finals are not open for visitors and even the Specsavers employees are not allowed to attend the event, let alone Melissa's court photographer. A pity! So I post this reject portrait of Melissa in the glasses that led her into the finals instead. Nel's garden did not give us shelter against the rain but Melissa and I had a good time anyway. Dear Melissa, I hope that you will have a good time on Thursday and needless to say, I hope that you will win the competition. You deserve it!
