Hans Winkel was a famous optician in Amsterdam who
designed glasses as well. His shop was situated at the Rokin
and his clients were rich and wealthy. He had a different
approach than most opticians who allow the client to browse
and then choose. Winkel's clients beforehand agreed that they
would follow the master optician's choice - and I beleive they
were always happy with the result. Needless to say that Winkel
glasses were expensive. I bought this pair (together with a Dior)
from a lady at a street fair in the "Jordaan", Amsterdam in the
early 1990's and their price was one guilder :).
