This encore performance of lovely Bianca in early 1970's
Viennaline glasses brings back sweet memories of my days
as a student. I spent most of my time at the main library of
the university because it had several advantages over my own
room. One advantage was space - studying physical geography
requires the use of big maps. Another advantage was that it
forced me to keep concentrated - no inclination to grab my
guitar and write a song, or other diversions. Last but not least,
the library was situated in the centre of Amsterdam. When the
weather was fine, I used to sit on the steps of the entrance, a
big mug of coffee in my hands, a newspaper at hand, but mainly
watching the colourful crowds passing by, including many gorgeous
girls and ladies in glasses with big frames. The only problem was
that some of the female students in the library looked so stunning
that it was hard to concentrate on my maps and books. One of
them was a beautiful blonde in exactly the same pair of Viennaline
glasses shown here by Bianca.
One of my favourite songwriters of all time, Ray Davies, wrote a
song that sprang to my mind when I saw this great series of portraits:
"I see the lines across your face
Time has come and nothing ever can replace
those great, so great
young and innocent days"
Thank you Ray, for the song, and thank you, Bianca, for bringing back
the sweet memories!
