Bianca 017

Powerful, striking posing by Bianca in 1980's varifocals
by Cazal. The same adjectives apply to the frame and the
synergy between model and glasses is no less than superb.

The lenses have -1.50 cylinders but the axis of the cylinders
differ with almost 90 degrees which makes all the difference
in the world. Each eye dismisses the intruding cylinder and both
eyes together fabricate an image close to plano glasses. Each
photo shoot benefits from experimenting during earlier shoots
and this is a fine example. Marleen was one of the best models
on my first weblog. She was willing to pose for me but she had
an impossible Rx with extremely strong cylinders (-4 and -3)
pointing in the same direction. Even in a collection of some 2000
glasses there were only three pairs that came fairly close to her
prescription so I had to think of a trick that allowed me to come
up with more glasses. The solution was simple: look for glasses
with three or four diopters difference (Sph) corresponding with
Marleen's Rx with and without cylinder. It worked surprisingly
well, with one notable exception that puzzles me till this day.
What happened to Bianca when she put up the Cazal varifocals
is a simple but effective variant of the remedy used during my first
photo shoot with Marleen in the late spring of 2010. Here Bianca
produces a wonderful natural look and only the change in the shape
of her eyes tells that significant cylinders are involved.
