Snowflakes and a touch of irony in the model's look.... Marieke once had a narrow escape during a solo descent of Thorong La, an 18.000 feet col near Muktinath in Nepal. A bad storm broke out, tons of snow falling and breaking huge trees like matchwood. Visibility almost zero, yet she managed her way down and it took two more precarious episodes before she was in safety. I had half a dozen close calls in the mountains myself but reading the email sent by Marieke when she had returned to the valley really gave me the shivers. With this background it came as no surprise to me when Marieke suggested a photo shoot in falling snow and in her gala dress. She pulled it off with no visual effort. Great!
