Beautiful - and equally important, quite credible - posing by
Léonne in vintage late 1950's or early 1960's glasses by
Whitney. After studying her portfolio as a model, I expected
that cat eye glasses would suit her face well. But I was not
prepared for the positive "shock" when I saw her just before
this portrait was taken. With some basic adjustments, Léonne
had just transformed herself into a lady in cat eye style and her
way of posing is very reminiscent of the images that were seen
in the streets of Amsterdam in my childhood. Mind you, I'm
talking streets for the upper class now.... The expression in her
eyes conjures up the image of a young lady looking away during
small talk with an elderly lady, but without really focussing on
anything special in the distance. Polite ladies always pretended
to be at least half present during talks. The pearls - another sign
of wealth, half a century ago - blend great with the glasses.
